I am so excited! After a particularly draining week, for a thousand reasons, I am so excited to think of where we'll be next week at this time! We're leaving Thursday right after school for Parma, Italy. I am so excited! Our hotels are booked in Parma for Thursday and Friday nights. I even have a balsamic vinegar tour booked at an Acetaia, Villa San Donnino. Even more exciting, the Villa was used in filming the 1976 movie, 1900, starring Robert de Niro (Joern's fave actor,) and Gerard Depardieu. I am so excited to go! I feel like we had a bit of luck in landing this awesome sounding balsamic tour. I had planned on booking a tour through one of the companies that offers guided tours through the region. BUT, they were ridiculously expensive, and you had to provide your own transportation. I did a little more careful research, and found out you can tour producers of the traditional regional foods (Parmagiano Reggiano cheese, Parma ham, and balsamic vinegar) with little cost. I booked the vinegar tour through the Balsamic Vinegar Consortium of Modena. I contacted the consortium about visiting a traditional acetaia. They then contatcted the Villa San Donnino asking them to set up a tour with us. It was so easy and quick, and we are so excited to go!
We're headed to Bologna on Saturday night and have booked Saturday and Sunday nights in Bologna. I'm not sure where we're exactly headed after Sunday night. We may want one more day in Bologna, or maybe not.
I would like to see San Marino, the oldest republic in Europe. Joern would like to go to the beach. I've read wonderful things about Ravenna, which is very close to the sea.
Our only constraint is that we have to be home on Friday night. We're going to see the hugely popular German comedian, Oliver Pocher, here in Stuttgart. The tickets were part of Joern's Christmas gift this past year.
I am so excited to see Italy, to go on vacation with my husband, and just to relax. Having never been to this region of Italy, I am sure that it will be a wonderful adventure!
